Meriwether County’s Environmental Health Office monitors and addresses threats to health and safety posed by physical, chemical and biological factors in our natural and built environments. The county office monitors and enforces policies and programs to reduce environmental hazards, handles inspections and complaints, and monitors safety concerns in the areas listed below.

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. Located in the same building as the health department, the Meriwether County WIC and Nutrition Center stands ready to support low-income families in taking care of their health through the services Georgia WIC offers: nutritious foods, health education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care.

This free program is available to pregnant women, new moms, breastfeeding moms, and parents or guardians who are the sole provider of children under age five and meet the income and nutritional requirements. The WIC program also provides participants with individually tailored healthy food vouchers that can be used at thousands of stores through Georgia’s eWIC program, the state’s electronic food system for issuing food benefits.

REQUEST ONLINE: You can request a certified copy of a birth or death certificate through our online ordering system available through an independent company, VitalDirector. Birth certificates are available for those born anywhere in Georgia from 1919 to the present. Each birth or death certificate is $25 (and $5 for each additional copy of the same certificate). There is an additional fee between $2-16 for using the online service. VitalDirector accepts all major credit cards, including American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.

REQUEST IN PERSON: You may request a certified copy of a birth or death certificate in person at our Vital Records office from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch from noon-1:00 p.m.). The office is located at the Meriwether County Health Department in Greenville.The search fee (includes one certified copy, if the record is found on file) is $25, and additional copies of the same certified record (if ordered at the same time) are $5 each. Please bring the appropriate fee and a photo ID. We accept all major credit cards (including American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa), money orders or cash. We DO NOT ACCEPT American Express checks or personal checks. Learn more about acceptable IDs and other required documentation.
