District 4’s Environmental Health Offices can investigate and address concerns related to Body Art, Food Service establishments, hotels and motels, public swimming pools, wastewater and more. However, there are many common complaints that we cannot enforce through health department rules and regulations. Please use the following resources to find information that may help you.
Mold
There is no protection in Georgia for exposure to mold. If you have a mold issue in your privately owned home, click here for cleaning guidelines. If you have a mold issue in a rental property, it is the landlord’s responsibility. If the landlord if not responding to a request to address repairs or maintenance related to mold, you can consult the Georgia Landlord Tenant Handbook for an effective resolution to the situation.
Pest Control
The Environmental Health Office may only address pest issues related to external causes, such as improperly stored rubbish, yard debris and brush piles. If you have a pest issue in your privately owned home, use University of Georgia Extension (Georgia Pest Management Handbook) and the EPA (Do’s and Don’ts of Pest Control) to safely address it. If you have a pest issue in a rental property, check your lease to see if it is the landlord’s responsibility. If the landlord if not responding to a request to address repairs or maintenance related to pests, you can consult the Georgia Landlord Tenant Handbook for an effective resolution to the situation.
