Please consider attending one of our FYI group discussions to learn more about infant feeding choices! The discussions are open to the public and not limited to pregnant mothers … we love it when dads, grandparents and friends come also! We also love when experienced breastfeeding mothers share their stories.

All of the FYI discussions are led by Breastfeeding Peer Counselors. Nutritionists are also available during part of the discussion, so that you can ask questions about eating while pregnant/breastfeeding.

Some of the popular topics we discuss are:

  • Why WIC promotes breastfeeding as the healthiest way to feed a baby.
  • The differences between breast milk and formula.
  • The health benefits of breastfeeding for mothers/babies.
  • What to expect the first few days of your baby’s life.
  • How to know whether your baby is eating enough.
  • How to handle common feeding difficulties.
  • How dads can be involved in the infant feeding process.
  • The WIC food packages available (including the type of formula provided).

However, the discussions are meant to cover the topics most important to you. If there is a topic you would like to learn more about that you are not comfortable discussing in a group setting, please call or email your county Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.

If you are scheduled to attend an FYI discussion group to meet the Nutrition Education requirement for WIC participants, you will receive your vouchers about 45 minutes after the beginning of the discussion. If you need to leave at that point, please do so. If not, please stay so we can make sure all of your questions are answered. We want you to feel confident about your infant feeding choice.
